SUEZ and VINCI Construction Grands Projets sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Serbian government for the construction of the first wastewater treatment plant in Belgrade

The new plant will positively contribute to the protection of the Danube and Sava rivers, reduce water pollution and improve the quality of life for the population.

The project has 2 phases:

• the construction of the facility, executed by the consortium SUEZ / VINCI Construction Grands Projets;
• the long-term operation and maintenance through a joint venture between Belgrade Water works and Sewage (BVK) and SUEZ, including the training of local teams and transfer of know-how. 

The new plant will be a world class highly advanced wastewater treatment plant, with cutting-edge technologies to recover heat, reduce electricity consumption, enhance biogas production, and potentially produce renewable electricity through a photovoltaic power plant project. It will include advanced sludge carbonisation technology that increases biogas production in digesters and reduces the volume of sludge to be incinerated. The project will have strong environmental benefits, by contributing to preserving water quality and biodiversity in the Danube and Sava rivers and producing local and renewable energy for the inhabitants of Belgrade.
