SUEZ wins Qatar north sewerage system management worth a total of 400 million euros over 5 years

Qatar Public Works Authority, ASHGHAL, has awarded SUEZ a major contract for the management of the entire sewerage infrastructure of the Qatar North Catchment Zone. This contract worth €400 million (QAR 1.6 billion) is for a 5-year duration with a potential extension of 5 additional years. It comprises a fully integrated scope for wastewater management of Qatar North Zone, including stormwater and reuse.
Faced with the challenge of scarce and diminishing resources with simultaneously a sharp increase in population and growing urbanization, ASHGHAL contributes to achieving the goals of Qatar National Vision 2030 by leading the transformation of Qatar’s drainage utilities sector. To do so, the Public Works Authority has launched an international call for tender to improve the entire wastewater value chain over three distinct geographical zones (catchment areas). Through the new framework contract, ASHGHAL aims at limiting to 3 the number of operators with three single framework contracts for the Operation & Maintenance and works of the entire sewage infrastructure of Qatar.

Within this framework, the Public Works Authority has awarded SUEZ the North Catchment area, the largest zone serving around 1.1 M people, with a fully integrated scope for wastewater management including storm water and water reuse.

To guarantee an excellent service performance, SUEZ will be able to draw on numerous service experiences and competences throughout the world as well as 14 years of experience in Qatar assuring the highest level of performance for Doha West and Lusail Sewage Treatment Plants. In collaboration with ASHGHAL, SUEZ will ensure operational excellence and an enhanced customer experience, putting environmental preservation challenges at the heart of its operation to make sewage a sustainable resource for Qatar. SUEZ will develop advanced and smart technologies to monitor and boost the infrastructure performance, extend assets lifespan and minimize their footprint on the environment.
